Unit Summary
In this unit, students will practice creating, identifying, and describing places on a map using terms related to direction and distance. The unit begins with an introduction to mapping including map identification and use of different models and representations of maps. We will also be answering the big question, "What are maps used and needed for?" Students will then identify locations on maps that are familiar to them using technology, maps, and through their own explorations.
The culminating activity will be a performance assessment in which the students will be working creatively and collaboratively. They will build a map using PIXIE (a digital drawing program) that will be uploaded to Voicethread where they will have to communicate to navigate the listener through the map. Students will research, analyze, construct, and evaluate themselves during this process while also having a blast!
